About this map
This map uses OpenStreetMap data for orientation, not navigation. Paths may be missing, outdated or incorrectly tagged. A mapped line does not confirm permission, public access, a connected route, or safe and suitable conditions. Follow current local rules, signs, closures and property restrictions. Terms & Disclaimer
Use the map to see how the harbor area connects with Federal Road and the streets along the island’s western, southern and eastern shores. Golf-course paths explicitly identified in OpenStreetMap and five private boardwalks have been excluded. Beach access paths and parking are not mapped comprehensively.
Before you drive
The Village sets an 18 mph speed limit unless a lower limit is posted. North Carolina road rules apply to cart drivers; impaired driving and open containers of alcohol are prohibited.
Getting around by golf cart
The Village lists golf-cart rentals near the ferry landing. A tram ride to your accommodation is included with a general passenger ferry ticket; reserve the tram in advance because seats are limited.
Practical rules
Registration and permits
The Village’s 2026 registration system uses online profiles and mailed stickers. New owners must register carts under their own name and insurance, even if an existing sticker has not expired. Keep the registration purchase receipt in the cart while waiting for stickers. Existing owners can add a newly acquired cart through their current profile.
Insurance notes
For a new owner’s registration profile, the Village asks for an insurance coverage document.
Driver rules
A valid driver’s license is required to drive a golf cart on the island.
Restricted areas
Gas-powered carts are prohibited on Village streets. ATVs, gators, side-by-sides and similar recreational or work vehicles are also prohibited there, with exceptions listed for emergency vehicles, the BHI Conservancy and the Bald Head Club.
Local cautions
When parking beside a Village road or at a public beach access, keep all four tires off the pavement. Keep traffic and emergency access clear, and do not park where signs prohibit it. Harbour Village has separate parking rules. Pass cyclists with care.

FAQs
How early should I arrive for the passenger ferry?
The ferry operator recommends arriving at Deep Point at least 30 minutes before your planned departure, dropping off luggage before parking. If you have a reservation, be in the boarding area at least 15 minutes before departure.
Where do I park my car for the ferry?
Deep Point has mainland parking. Drop off passengers and luggage first, then use the general parking lot. Keep your electronic parking ticket for the exit; check the ferry operator’s parking information for current charges.

Yes. A bicycle needs an oversized-baggage ticket. On Village streets, riders under 16 must wear a helmet.
