Fayetteville Golf Cart Map

Independent path map, local golf cart rules and official sources for Fayetteville, Georgia.

Fayetteville has three authorized recreational paths where golf carts may be used: along Helen Sams Parkway and sections of Lester and Redwine roads. City permits and major-road restrictions also apply. Some homes and businesses have a Fayetteville postal address but sit outside the City of Fayetteville’s legal boundary, so check whether an address is actually within the city before relying on Fayetteville’s golf-cart rules.

About this map

This map uses OpenStreetMap data for orientation, not navigation. Paths may be missing, outdated or incorrectly tagged. A mapped line does not confirm permission, public access, a connected route, or safe and suitable conditions. Follow current local rules, signs, closures and property restrictions. Helen Sams and partial Lester corridors. This partial orientation map shows 1.9 miles of mapped paths along Helen Sams Parkway and supported parts of Lester Road; it does not show all three authorized corridors. Redwine is omitted because its supported map extent remains unresolved, not because it is prohibited. The two displayed corridor groups are not a verified connected route. Mileage describes only this displayed subset; 0.1 miles meet our OSM cart criteria. Surrounding paths and road crossings are not established cart routes by this map. Check current official guidance and signs.

Before you drive

The City’s permit guidance limits motorized carts to subdivisions and authorized recreational paths. The ordinance also names authorized streets and other public-access areas, but those broader categories do not establish permission for a particular road. Confirm road access with the Fayetteville Police Department. Follow traffic rules and use an available cart path instead of a parallel city street; the code excludes private golf-club course paths from that requirement. Driving after daylight requires working headlights and taillights.

Practical rules

Registration and permits

Register a cart with the city before using its subdivisions or authorized recreational paths, unless the reciprocal-permit provision applies. Registrants must be at least 18. The city’s permit page directs applicants to the Fayetteville Police Department at 760 Jimmie Mayfield Drive.

City permit guidance and section 82-261(a)(4) say registration remains effective until ownership is transferred. Section 82-261(a)(1) also says permits must be updated annually. Ask the Police Department about any required annual update; the public permit guidance does not describe an annual renewal.

Gasoline carts have a separate exhaust inspection requirement every 2 years, performed by a licensed golf-cart dealer holding a business license. Certification must be submitted to the city within 10 business days after that period. Dealer exhaust certification is also required to register, renew or transfer a gasoline cart. Exhaust and emissions-control equipment must remain in working order. The 2-year inspection cycle is not a general registration renewal term.

Insurance notes

The city advises cart operators to verify their liability insurance coverage for use on paths, public streets and other public-access areas. Its cart ordinance does not specify a coverage amount.

Driver rules

Drivers must hold a valid motor vehicle driver’s license, or be at least 15 with a valid learner’s permit. Children age 12 or older may drive when a licensed driver age 18 or older accompanies them in the front seat.

Streets and crossings

Carts cannot travel along or across the city’s major and collector streets except at approved cart crossings. No specific crossing has been verified for this guide.

Restricted areas

The restricted major streets are Highways 85, 54, 92 and 314; North Jeff Davis Drive; Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard; and Veterans Parkway. The collector-street list includes New Hope Road, White Road, Banks Road, Beauregard Boulevard/Redwine Road, Grady Avenue, Hood Avenue, Old Norton Road, Brandywine Boulevard, Ginger Cake Road, South Jeff Davis Drive, Ramah Road, Price Road, Lester Road and Sandy Creek Road. A path beside one of these roads is distinct from permission to drive on the road.

Local cautions

On shared paths, keep right when meeting other users, pass on the left and warn pedestrians before approaching from behind. Give pedestrians and bicyclists the right-of-way. The city prohibits loitering or parking on paths or streets, and hazardous conduct such as racing or blocking public access except for city-approved special events. Street alcohol and open-container rules also apply to carts and recreational paths.

FAQs

Does Fayetteville recognize a cart permit from a nearby community?

The city code recognizes permits issued by Fayette County, Peachtree City and Tyrone for their residents. Fayetteville’s own operating rules, including its driver-age requirements, still apply. Permit recognition does not establish a connecting route.

Does a Fayetteville mailing address mean a destination is inside the city?

No. The city explains that Fayetteville mailing addresses also cover parts of unincorporated Fayette and Clayton counties. It recommends checking the official city map and county tax records to confirm the jurisdiction before applying city rules.
