Before you drive
- Drive only between sunrise and sunset on secondary roads with posted speed limits of 35 mph or less.
- Stay within four miles of the address on the registration certificate. If that address is in a gated community, the limit is four miles from a community entrance or exit.
- Cross a higher-speed highway or street only at an intersection.
- The driver must be at least 16 and hold a valid driver’s license.
- On public highways and streets, each passenger under 12 must wear a fastened safety belt or be properly restrained in a car seat or booster seat.
- Display the South Carolina permit decal.

North Myrtle Beach golf cart rules
Registration and permits
- Obtain the South Carolina permit decal and registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles. Registration requires proof of ownership, liability insurance and a fee.
- Attach the permit decal to the cart. Replace it every five years or when the owner’s address changes, whichever comes first.
- Carry the registration certificate when driving. The certificate is separate from the displayed decal. Follow applicable traffic laws.

Roads and crossings
