Port Aransas Golf Cart Map

Independent path map, local golf cart rules and official sources for Port Aransas, Texas.

Golf carts are a common way to get around Port Aransas. Carts can use many streets posted at 35 mph or below and can also travel on the beach where vehicles are permitted, but Highway 361 south of Avenue G is off limits. This guide explains the main local rules and shows OpenStreetMap golf cart paths.

Check the accommodation address against the Highway 361 restriction before renting. Confirm who may drive, whether a cart is included and for how long, and which beach parking and operating conditions apply. A road’s speed limit alone does not establish cart access.

About this map

This map uses OpenStreetMap data for orientation, not navigation. Paths may be missing, outdated or incorrectly tagged. A mapped line does not confirm permission, public access, a connected route, or safe and suitable conditions. Follow current local rules, signs, closures and property restrictions. Terms & Disclaimer

This map shows 4.8 miles from OSM paths meeting our confirmed golf-cart criteria and 0.9 miles of OSM paths not meeting our confirmed golf-cart criteria for planning and orientation. OpenStreetMap coverage may be incomplete. A line on this map does not confirm an official, legal, approved or safe route. Check the city-supplied map, posted controls and official local sources before driving. The city's official golf-cart map is not provided on this page.

Planning a visit by golf cart

Check what your accommodation includes

Ask whether a cart is included for the whole stay, offered for a shorter period or rented separately. For example, Life in Paradise advertises daily rentals with delivery and a free one-day cart rental at some properties. That is not a promise of a cart for every property or every day. Confirm the particular offer, passenger capacity, parking, keys, fuel or charging and breakdown arrangements.

Property-booking and cart-rental ages can differ. Life in Paradise lists 25 as the property renter’s minimum and 21 for the cart renter, with a valid license required to drive. Check the agreement for every proposed driver before booking.

Compare rental conditions

Joy Cart Rentals requires its primary renter and listed driver to be at least 21; additional drivers must be at least 18 with a valid license. Marlins Beach Carts requires every driver to be at least 21, authorized and covered by its signed rental agreement, with a valid license and auto insurance. These are separate companies’ terms, not a universal city minimum.

Marlins also requires a credit card on file and sets delivery and operating limits, including no use past Beach Mile Marker 45. Ask about your exact address, collection or delivery times, cancellation, damage, child restraints and return requirements. A supplier’s service area or suggested route does not override the City’s restrictions.

Plan your beach outings and town trips

Highway 361 south of Avenue G is off limits to golf carts. Check whether your accommodation and intended stops can be connected without using it; proximity on the map is not enough. The detailed rules explain intersection crossings, but this guide does not establish named legal crossings or provide the City’s current cart map. Ask the supplier for the city-supplied guidance before committing to a journey.

On the beach, follow posted controls and the City’s vehicle rules: the 15 mph limit, main traveled roadway, designated parking and dune restrictions still apply. Confirm the required beach parking permit and any supplier limits. Do not treat beach access as unrestricted, or drive along pedestrian walkways to reach the shore.

The owner is responsible for the cart’s City licensing. If using a rental or accommodation cart, ask the supplier to confirm its compliance and explain the documents and operating instructions you need. Your rental agreement does not replace the driver responsibilities in the rules below.

Before you drive

These are the main conditions to identify before planning a trip. The detailed rules and official sources follow below.

Normal traffic laws apply, along with Port Aransas golf-cart restrictions. Golf-cart use on public streets or highways within the city is limited to roads posted at 35 mph or less, and other restrictions may apply. The speed threshold does not mean every qualifying road is an approved route. Keep right and yield to faster traffic. Everyone must remain in a passenger seat while the cart is moving; lap riding is prohibited.

Port Aransas golf cart rules

Registration and permits

Port Aransas requires an annual city license for each golf cart used on public streets or highways within the city. The license expires December 31 of the purchase year and cannot be transferred to another cart. The cart must have working headlamps, tail lamps, reflectors, a parking brake, rearview mirrors, seatbelts and a slow-moving-vehicle emblem. Keep the city-issued rules notice displayed and carry the city-supplied map in the cart.

Insurance

The city requires proof of insurance that meets state motor-vehicle standards.

Driver requirements

Port Aransas requires drivers to have a valid operator's permit and/or driver's license. Texas law bars license issuance below age 15. Learner and hardship licensing can begin at age 15, subject to conditions. Ordinary minor Class C licensing can begin at age 16, subject to prerequisites. Nonresident rules and conditions on an individual license may differ. The reviewed law does not establish one age that applies to every driver.

Roads and crossings

A golf cart may cross a road posted above 35 mph only at an intersection and at a right angle to the higher-speed road. Use the city-supplied map to identify legal crossings.

Restricted areas

Do not drive a golf cart on Highway 361 south of Avenue G. Keep golf carts off public sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, playgrounds, public parks, school grounds and other public recreation areas unless the area is designated for motor traffic. The city's beach-vehicle rules set a 15 mph limit, require use of the main traveled roadway except when entering or leaving designated parking, prohibit vehicles on dunes, and require a beach parking permit in designated areas. Before driving on the beach, check posted controls and the city-supplied map.

Use this as a planning summary. Local rules and posted controls can change; check the linked official rules and signs before you ride.

Know before you go

The 35 mph road threshold is not a complete route list. Use the city-supplied map to check prohibited areas and legal crossings.
